Valentine's Day at its Finest

For Valentine's/Galentine's day this year, a few of my fellow Resident Assistants and I decided to surprise our residents with batches of homemade cookies and popcorn, delivered to their front doors. While this idea was cute in theory, the hours it took to prep and assemble everything was decidedly not cute.

It was midterms week, and all three of us had a ton of work to get done. We also accidentally bought the wrong ingredients. However, we decided to buckle down and get to work.

Around three hours in, we had hundreds of cookies done, our last batch in the over, and were almost done making the popcorn and the caramel glaze that was going to go along with it. We were feeling pretty good, until we realized that the boxes the cookies were going to go into needed to be made. While they looked easy enough to do, we soon stumbled onto the fact that they were as easy as an Ikea dresser.

Once everything was finally done, the sweet treats divided up into bags to hand out the next day, dishes cleaned and counters wiped down, it was easy to see that through this, the essence of Valentine's/Galentine's day came through: celebrating all versions of love, and showing the people in your life that they're special. Next year, though, we're buying premade cookie dough and boxes that are already assembled...
