Insider Scoop: Planning for Palooza!
Every spring at Loyola, right before finals start up, the University puts on a full-day, outdoor music experience for students. It's called Loyolapalooza, and students are privy to free class year giveaways, free food and drinks from local vendors, branded limited edition t-shirts, outdoor rides and games, and a free concert with local bands opening for the headliner.
Every year, people start talking about Palooza around February or March, wondering who the next performer will be. What students don't know, however, is that the planning and choosing over what to get and who to book is done by the time that students first begin wondering.
Palooza is put on mainly through the Student Government Association (SGA), with other organizations involved through consultations. The Director of Events and Traditions, a student-held post on the SGA exec board, is tasked with taking this on.
This year, Gabby, the director, began planning in September! She had to compile lists of possible artists, which would then get vetted by school administrators before putting offers out. This is standard practice, and there were hundreds of names that were bounced around before landing on Animé this year.
So when everyone gets excited at the BSA Fashion Show for the reveal? Know that this was months of work and hard planning behind the scenes!
